A Stroll Through The Desert

June 30th, 2011

Every morning around 5:30am my dog Winston and I get up to start our day. I make a cup of coffee and we head over to our dog park, Winston’s Waggin’ Wanch, which, of course, is named after Winston. We get to meet other early morning risers that are out with their four-legged friends to beat the heat!

After my cup of coffee, Winston and I walk around the perimeter of the Resort for a little exercise (once around is .7 miles). Many mornings I see one of our guests, Craig Shenton, walking in from the desert with a camera around his shoulder.

One morning I asked him what pictures he’s been taking and he said he enjoys the beauty of Arizona’s desert and takes pictures of birds, insects, and vegetation. I told him I’d like to see his pictures one day, and a few weeks later, he gave me a disc of some photos. I put them in my laptop and was amazed at what beautiful images he has captured. He is an amateur photographer, but I might beg to differ…. I asked him if I could upload these photos to Leaf Verde’s Facebook so many of our guests can view them. I am very proud to have these photos on our Facebook page.

Leaf Verde RV Resort is truly in the desert. Buckeye is home to so many beautiful birds and animals. It is truly amazing that any one of us can walk around and see a vast variety of nature every day. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I did.

When you stay with us at Leaf Verde maybe you’ll get to meet Craig. It would be great to have him host an evening of photos for us and talk about the various species of birds we have here. I’ll bet he might even lead some of us on a stroll through the desert!! You can view the photos under the photo section under Shenton’s Photos.  Just click here:  http://on.fb.me/itJaiD

A Short Biography of Leaf Verde RV Resort!

May 8th, 2011

In 1981, Andy & Eileen Anderson and Wally & Francis Lauridsen wanted to provide an alternative to the flashy & pricey RV Parks located on Phoenix’s Eastside.  They envisioned a winter haven for those budget conscious individuals who were escaping snowy winters.  Holding to the philosophy that “less is more,” they set out to build an RV trailer resort and mobile home park.  Their mission: to make it simple, affordable, and clean. They built their vision in the middle of the desert, offering a single picnic table and a palm tree at each space.  Simple.

Unsure of what to name the project, they chose the wives’ initials, EA (for Eileen Anderson) and FL (for Francis Lauridsen), which formed LEAF.  Next, in keeping with the Spanish influence on the Southwest, they chose to add the word Verde, meaning the color “green.”  The result: Leaf Verde.

To best accommodate overnighters, the RV Park needed wide streets, plenty of pull-thrus, 30/50 Amp service for each space, clean facilities, and a friendly staff.  For winter guests a fair monthly price, a small gathering lounge, laundry facilities, a heated swimming pool, and a convenience mart were needed.

Andy Anderson passed away in 1990 and in 1992, the two families parted ways.  Eileen and family wanted to keep their ties with the RV industry, as Andy & Eileen were avid travelers, so they chose to keep the RV Park, now known as Leaf Verde RV Resort.  The Lauridsen’s kept the Mobile Home Park, which they sold shortly thereafter.  It is presently known as Buena Vista Manufactured Home Community.

Today, thirty years later, Leaf Verde RV Resort is still owned and operated by Eileen and her family.

Their commitment is simple:  To provide the best value and superior hospitality in the greater Phoenix area at a fair price!  We look forward to the opportunity to earn your business.  Go to www.LeafVerde.com, make your reservation and come see why we are The Best Value Under the Sun!
